Antigravity vs Claude Native Skills (2026)

How to Audit Any Skill Before Using It

Because every skill is a plain .md file, you have complete visibility into what instructions it gives Claude. This is the most important habit to build before running community skills on sensitive codebases.

Open the file and look for three things:

  1. Scope. what it’s allowed to do. A well-written skill defines its purpose narrowly. A pptx skill should describe slide generation. If you see instructions to read environment variables, make network requests, or modify files outside the working directory, treat that as a red flag.

  1. Tool permissions. Claude Code skills can call bash, read files, and invoke other tools. Check whether the skill restricts or expands those permissions beyond what the task requires.

  2. Prompt injection surface. If the skill asks Claude to process external content (URLs, user-pasted text, uploaded files), verify it includes instructions to treat that content as data, not as additional commands.

Native skills pass this audit by default. Anthropic reviews them before shipping. For Antigravity skills, the audit takes two minutes and can prevent a skill from doing something unexpected in your project.

Decision Framework: Which Skill Type to Reach For

Use this decision tree before installing a new community skill:

Does a native skill cover this task?
 YES → Use the native skill. No setup needed.

 YES → Read the .md file. Is it well-scoped and recently maintained?
 YES → Install and test in a low-stakes project first.
 NO → Write a custom skill or use a prompt instead.
 NO → Write a one-off prompt or create your own skill file.

The key principle: native skills are zero-friction defaults. Community skills are deliberate additions you vet and maintain. Custom skill files are a last resort that you own entirely.

Writing Your Own Skills When Neither Option Fits

If neither native nor Antigravity covers your use case, you can write a skill file in under ten minutes. A minimal skill file looks like this:

Custom skills you write yourself sit between native and Antigravity in the trust hierarchy. you have full control, but you are also the maintainer. Store them in version control alongside your dotfiles so they survive machine migrations.

Maintaining a Mixed Skill Set Over Time

Running native skills alongside several Antigravity skills and a handful of custom ones is the normal, productive state. A few habits keep that setup healthy:

Pin specific skill versions for production workflows. If a community skill updates and changes behavior, your workflow breaks silently. Save a copy of the version you tested:

Retire skills you stop using. An unused skill file in ~/.claude/skills/ does not consume resources, but it adds noise to your available command set. Delete or archive skills that no longer serve active projects.

Neither type is universally better. Native skills offer stability and deep integration. Community skills offer flexibility and specialized functionality. Most productive setups combine both: native skills for daily tasks, carefully selected Antigravity skills for specific needs.
