Specifically, manual review should cover:

  • Interpreting pricing psychology: Is a competitor’s 15% price cut a sign of weakness or a land-grab strategy? The data shows the number; you supply the context.
  • Reading between the lines in job postings: A competitor hiring ten ML engineers signals a product pivot that no pricing page will reveal. The automation doesn’t monitor job boards by default, you need to bring that signal in manually.
  • Evaluating product quality claims: Feature presence in a comparison matrix doesn’t reflect feature quality. Manual testing or community research fills that gap.
  • Assessing customer sentiment: Review sites, developer forums, and social media provide signal that structured data sources miss entirely.
